Word spread cross the village that something was wrong

Their Thomas O'Leary had blood on his hands
The Devil is coming

She lay in the moonlight down by the old well
Miss Meghan O'Shay, her head cracked like a shell
And standing beside her, as still as a stone
Was Thomas O'Leary, and Thomas alone
As there was no other, and Meghan was dead
They lay guilt for the misdeed on his head
And Tom, as he stood there in front of the crowd
He muttered and stammered and sang this out loud
