What I Know Now When I was young and blind and free There were some things ‘bout living life I could not see And I believed that I could tell what mattered Mostly by the way that it served me But when you’re selfish you don’t know That everything that you give begins to grow And that the good things and the bad comes with you Everywhere you go If I knew then what I know now (Chorus) If I knew the what I know now I’d more patience for the angry ones some how I’d have compassion for the lonely ones Who tried to drag me down If I knew then what I know now And so the days turn into years And the things I’ve done turn into all my fears And what I think I know gets changed By all the laughter and the tears And by and by I start to see That there are things about the way it’s supposed to That keep me searching for what I don’t have And missing what is right in front of me If I knew then what I know now (Chorus) (Bridge) Now is where you find the place Where you can just belong Now is where you find yourself Because you’ve been here, all along If I knew then what I know now When you are young and blind and free There will be things ‘bout living life you can not see But you will come to know, with patience You’re exactly where you’re supposed to be

Children Dance Come on down people Gather round people Take some time as you pass on your way Listen close For a minute at most while I Pass on a post you won’t see everyday (Chorus) I don’t know why the children just dance How can they be so free? I don’t know how the children just dance They’ve got so much to teach me Come on down people Gather round people Break away from that thing in your hand Take on the view That is right in front of you And the moment that you do You just might understand (Chorus) (Break) Maybe there’s a touch about seeing too much Maybe a bit about pain But maybe if I can let all that pass by I might start dancing again Come on down people Gather round people Take some time as you pass on your way Listen close For a minute at most while I Pass on a post that you won’t see everyday (Chorus)

Let My Life 04:42
Let My Life (be like a song) By Joel Glenn Wixson Let my life be like a River that can flow without a dam For the eddies that distract me from the journey that I am Let my life by like a Mountain that I choose to climb each day And let me take the time to notice all the gifts along the way Let my life be like an Ocean that is deep as it is wide And may I come to know it's wisdom before I reach the other side. (Chorus) Let my life be like a song that I can rewrite every day Let it change with every second as I learn new things to say Let my life be like a fire that will burn for all to see Let it burn as a reminder of the way I can be free Let my life be like an Oak Tree that will stand the test of time Let me find my inspiration in the branches that I climb (Chorus) Let my life be like a Meadow, let me learn to be serene May I come to find acceptance for the man I should have been Let my life be like the Desert, let it change with every day May I see that, like the grains of sand, each moment blows away (Chorus) Let my life be like a Forest, full of Life and Death and Truth Let me wander through the wonder without asking for any proof Let my life be like a Raindrop that just lives from Cloud to Earth Let me cherish every moment from the instant of my birth Let my life be like a Mountain Lake that's calm and still and clear Let me notice, in this patient place, the music there to hear

Intersections What I do requires That your essence transpires In a moment The person I see Is a version of me That I know For you can not show As you ‘re here then you go In a moment The fullness of you That I know can’t come through As you go (Chorus) But somehow I see Intersections of you making me More than I used to be I wait here a while As you pass and you smile In a moment Or maybe you’ll stay As I sing and I play I don’t know For what will emerge As our journeys converge In this moment Can not be foretold As our paths all unfold And we go (Chorus) (Bridge) What I do requires That your essence transpires In a moment The person I see Is a version of me That I know For you can not show As you ‘re here then you go In a moment The fullness of you That I know can’t come through As you go (Chorus)

Don’t Say I’m Brave Don’t stand up no no no Don’t fill your cup Don’t ask for anything ‘Cause you have had enough Just get in line Just do your time Just take your medicine ‘Cause what you have is mine (Chorus) These are the words That I think everybody’s heard And how our freedom gets deferred By all these lies Don’t say I’m brave Because I will not be a slave To these ideas somebody gave That hold me down Be a man And always have a plan Be more responsible Then anybody can Just pay no mind And keep on killing time And always take your medicine ‘Cause what you have is mine (Chorus) (Bridge) You can be free Just look at me I’m not like anything That I’m supposed to be So it’s your turn What do you have to learn? To stand up with me While we let the prison burn? Just stand up And fill your cup Don’t ask for anything ‘Cause you have had enough (Chorus) These are the words That nobody’s ever heard No more freedom gets deferred And no more lies Don’t say I’m brave Because I will not be a slave To these ideas somebody gave That hold me down

Are You Gonna Dance? What is it about life No matter what we say When you want to shut down Your toes start tapping anyway? And here we are right now And we just met today And you don’t want to dance But I just want to play (Chorus) You don’t want to dance I see it in your eyes You don’t want to dance What is it about time No matter what we say We want it to slow down But it keeps passing anyway And here we are right now And we just have today And you don’t want to dance But I just want to play (Chorus) (Bridge) Most of us live long enough To see when we lost track And you will see The time you can’t get back ‘Cause here we are right now And we just met today And now you want to dance And I just want to play You just want to dance I see it in your eyes You just want to dance

Recliner 03:57
Recliner Your daddy sits in his recliner Wondering what this day will bring Like yesterday was finer And today don’t mean a thing And as he sits in that recliner Time keeps passing by Lately he can’t seem to figure out If he should even try Days keep passing by And as he lives in that recliner he wonders Should he even comb his hair And as the people walk by his window does he really notice He’s not sure he’s really there And as he sits in that recliner Will he finally figure out Why the just seems to spin and spin and turn and turn What his life his been about

Tattoo 03:16
Tattoo It could be a rose of red Encircled by your name Or I could have a scrolling ring And you would have the same Or it could be a single note Suspended in the Sea If this is what I have to do To bring you back to me (Chorus) Let me write it in a fresh tattoo That’s burning in my skin I’d add a little every day Until I have you back again Maybe all the tears I’ve cried Since you refused to stay They’d cover my from head to toe But I’d do it anyway And then I’d add a burning heart If that would make it right If this is what I have to do To take back that one night (Chorus) (Bridge) The sting and burn and pain That I can not take back from you I carry with me every day Preserved in that tattoo It could start with a rose of red Encircled by your name That would be a ring of fire That nobody could tame And then I’d have a single note Suspended in the Sea If this is what I have to do To bring you back to me (Chorus) Gonna write it in a fresh tattoo That’s burning in my skin And add a little every day Until I have you back again

Fire in Your Eyes (Chorus) I can see the fire in your eyes I can see the Love on your face I can see the fire in your eyes I can see the Love on your face You fly around me Like a leaf in the wind You think that landing Will confirm all your sin What is this burden That you carry so close? Could be our own regrets The hurt us the most But (Chorus) You think you’re hiding All the darkness inside It just reveals to me How hard you have tried Maybe the song you think Exposes your scars Is just an anthem to How perfect you are ‘Cause (Chorus) (Bridge) D And what convinced you C That the flame in you is dead? And what conspired To put this trouble in your head? Maybe it’s time That we stood up to all these lies Is that how courage lives And doubt and worry dies? ‘Cause (Chorus) You fly around me Like a leaf in the wind You think that landing Will confirm all your sin If we give Love To every person we see Is that the answer That might set us free?

The Ballad of Enoch Brown “Spare the children,” Was the most that he could say Enoch Brown was bound To lose his life that day July of ‘64 And war was in the land Odawa Pontiac Was taking his own stand (Chorus) Is this the story of the weak? What is the justice that they seek? Lanape people Were just fighting to be free The British colonists Refused to grant their plea Four foolish warriors With anger in their eyes Struck down the children And ignored their desperate cries (Chorus) Night Walker scolded Called them cowards to their face He cut them down and said They were the lowest of their race But all the white man’s anger Sent a bounty cross the land They’d pay a hundred thirty four For children more than ten (Chorus) (Bridge) It’s been so many schools Another one today? We’re going on three hundred years Where things have been this way Do we see the irony Of targeting the young? Or recognize the consequence Of something we have done? If he thinks he has a purpose If he wants to put things right When he thinks he’s not worth anything If he can’t stand and fight What drives a man to come to think That this is how he can? If we don’t figure that one out We’ll see it all again (Chorus) “Spare the children,” Was the most that he could say Enoch Brown was bound To lose his life that day But just how many teachers Yes and kids will have to die Before we ask the questions That unmask all of the lies

Here On The Sidewalk Here on the sidewalk you pass me by When no one is looking do I even try? If faces are many but dollars few How will I get by, will I know what to do? Here on the sidewalk I play guitar It’s not brought me much, but it’s got me this far And what of the people I see out here? They show me their courage, they show me their fear (Chorus) And here on the sidewalk connects us all Connecting the rich and connecting the small And here is a separate reality Where everyone gets to be free And here on the sidewalk you see me stand A song in my heart and a pick in my hand And what if tomorrow I went away? Would you hear the ripples of me here today? (Chorus) (Bridge) Here on the sidewalk we all make a choice Here on the sidewalk we all have a voice Here on the sidewalk you pass me by When no one is looking do I even try? If faces are many but dollars few I know I’ll get by, ‘cause I know what to do (Chorus)

about

For the past five years, the foundation of my musical life is street performance, "busking." I have played from Portland Maine to Portland Oregon. Internationally, I have played in Canada, France, and New Zealand. This CD is a testament to my experiences so far. Each song is inspired by the street and the people I have met there. I have been fortunate to have some extraordinary experiences in my life, but nothing matches the tiny moments of wonder that transpire when it's just me, my guitar, and you. Sometimes it happens in a second, sometimes it' an extended conversation that creates a friendship, but it's always magical. Thanks to everyone I have met out there, and all the friends who have yet to pass me by. See you soon, here on the sidewalk.
